European Research Council

European Research Council (ERC) funding schemes are open to top researchers of any nationality or age who wish to carry out their frontier research in the EU Member States or associated countries.  There are 2 ERC funding schemes relevant to Research Staff - the Starting Grant (StG) and the Consolidator grant (CoG) Scheme.

The objective of these grants is to provide critical support to the independent careers of outstanding researchers, whatever their nationality, located in or moving to the EU and associated countries, who are at the stage of establishing and leading their first independent research team or programme.  ERC grants are aimed at the very best, high-achieving, creative academics to carry out cutting-edge, innovative and risky research at the frontiers of their disciplines, going beyond established areas of knowledge and breaking boundaries.  The topic is decided by the applicant and can be from any subject area across the arts and humanities, social sciences and physical and life sciences.
