Your development and training

We provide a wide range of training events and opportunities for Research Staff. The courses provided by People Development are free to University staff.

Research Staff Development Opportunities lists workshops which are focused on the needs of Research Staff. A wider list of workshops can also be found on the search for a course page. From here you are able to see the next available workshops, and book a place.

If we do not have a workshop scheduled, then email peopledevelopment@reading.ac.uk
or phone ext. 6113 and ask to be placed on a waiting list.

PI Management Responsibilities

There are many aspects to the role of Principal Investigator, one of which is staff management. This aspect includes the support, development, welfare, performance management and safety of PDRAs. The University holds the Human Resources Excellence in Research Award (HRER), demonstrating our commitment to the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, an agreement between the funders and employers of research staff in the UK that sets out clear standards that research staff can expect from the university that employs them.

This guidance booklet provides you with a clear outline of your responsibilities as a PI in the management and development of your research staff, in line with the Concordat and contains some practical tips to enable you to effectively manage and support the development of your research staff.

Further training opportunities

In addition to the workshops provided by People Development, Research Staff can participate in training provided by a number of other training providers.
