Security Services
What we do
With team of 40, security services patrol and provide emergency response for all University property. With four campus shifts and a halls team we work closely with the Police and other neighbourhood stakeholders to provide a constant presence.
We have a comprehensive CCTV system with over 300 cameras on University property, emergency call points, alarm monitoring equipment and vehicle tracking devices.
Security Service never closes and our aim is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors wherever they are on University property.
Where we are
Security Services is located at the north entrance to Whiteknights House on the Whiteknights Campus.
Safety on Campus
The University gives a very high priority to the security of its staff.It invests significant resources in the matter including co-funding Police Community Support Officers as part of its security strategy. However, individuals should maintain a high awareness of their own personal safety. Advice on this follows below.
Security advice
At the University we firmly believe that prevention is the best way to tackle crime. We have an advice booklet specifically about personal safety, which you can download. Alternatively you can request a hard copy by contacting reception@reading.ac.uk.

Parking on Campus
Applying for a parking permit
Staff are eligible to obtain a vehicle entry permit that gains them access to the campuses. The cost of this will be deducted from their salary.
Please complete the form and return it to Reception in the Palmer Building, before starting at the University. It can be mailed to: Palmer Reception, Whiteknights, University of Reading, Reading, Berkshire, RG6 6AH.
Charges
Staff earning up to £10k per annum: £10.00 per annum 83p per month deducted from salary
Other staff: £36.00 per annum £3 per month deducted from salary
