Guidelines for Use of the Music Practice Rooms

We hope you enjoy using the music practice rooms. Your safety and the safety of others when using the practice rooms is paramount; therefore, please observe the following rules:

The emergency exit is via the large recital room at the end of Spur A.

Last entry to the Music Practice Rooms is at 11pm. You will be expected to leave by 11.30pm and will be asked to do so by the Security Officer if you are still there beyond this time.

If using the practice rooms after 6 pm, please sign in and out. The sign in sheet is located in the practice rooms by the entrance to the TOB2 corridor. The Security Officer will require this information in the event of an emergency.

Ensure that windows are closed in the music practice room before you leave.

Windows in the doors to individual practice rooms should be left uncovered as they provide a means of checking the rooms in the case of an emergency.

Switch off the light in the music practice room before you leave. If you are the last to leave, please switch off the light in the music corridor before you leave.

Use of piano stools  A piano stool should never be adjusted when a person is seated, as it puts undue pressure on the mechanism and can break it. When adjusting a piano stool, please ensure that you do so whilst standing up.

Amps are not permitted, as they may disturb the other music practice room users.

Do not take bicycles into the practice rooms, or leave bicycles on the exit ramp; this is a fire escape and must be left clear at all times Cycles may be left in the rack by Typography Department (TOB2, Earley Gate).
