Placement Officer

The Placement Officer will be responsible for assisting the Work Placements Tutor in the effective implementation of the University's work placement policy within the Department. The principal duties of the post holder, which are subject to alteration, are as follows:

  • In conjunction with the Employability Skills Tutor, to liaise with CPEC and, where appropriate, with employers and other organisations regarding organising employability and placement related events
  • To produce and maintain materials (for prospective and current students and employers), to increase awareness of, and describe, the placement scheme and opportunities
  • To provide information on the work placement scheme as necessary to all interested parties, including current and prospective students and employers
  • To liaise with employers to help identify and generate placement opportunities of varying lengths (a few weeks to 12 months), and to grow and maintain an 'address book' of subject-friendly potential employers
  • In conjunction with the Employability Skills Tutor, and with CPEC, to advise staff and students on the necessary skills required for successful placement applications, and how these might be best developed
  • To advise students on all aspects of the placement process
  • To co-ordinate and make site visits, including tracking, recording and monitoring of students while on placement as well as ensuring QAA standards are met
  • To ensure proper documentation is completed (with assistance from CPEC), including maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of student engagement with placements
  • To liaise with CPEC regarding help available to students applying for placements, and regarding student reflection on return
  • To maintain an online presence (e.g. via Blackboard).
