Research Data Storage Service
Description
The Research Data Storage Service provides researchers with on campus access to secure, resilient and redundant storage replicated in two locations for protection. The service provides three tiers of online data storage offering a range of features and price points, two of the three service options also offer off-site backup.
All storage is accessible from Windows, Linux and Mac OS via the SMB and NFS protocols, although we are unable to offer mixed access.

How to access
Research Data Storage subscription can be purchased or renewed via DTS Self Service Portal.
- NFS exports are mounted on /storage/.
- SMB shares are accessible using the UNC \\rdg-home.ad.rdg.ac.uk\research.
Cost and service options
The service is chargeable in advance based on the service tier, amount and duration. Charges will be made as soon as the requested storage has been delivered.
Charges for academic year 22/23.

1. Snapshots provide protection against accidental deletion or overwriting of data, allowing user to restore files from up to two weeks ago.
2. Backups are encrypted and stored in cloud data centres within the EU.
Subscription Portal
Share owners and managers can find out information on the shares that they own by logging in to the Subscriptions Portal.
Expired volumes
In order to ensure fair usage, lapsed storage which is not renewed will be marked as read-only for one month. After one month, the lapsed volume will be deleted along with all remaining data.
Research data archive
The University of Reading Research Data Archive is a multidisciplinary online service for the registration, preservation and publication of research data produced or collected at the University of Reading. The Research Data Archive is managed by Research Services and can be accessed via the RES website.
