Tools for Creating Web Pages

In order to create your own web pages, various methods can be used.

If you 'view source' using an option on your browser, you can see the HTML code used for displaying the web page. HTML is HyperText Markup Language. HTML files are raw text (ASCII with no formatting such as bold, font etc.) and the HTML markup, as distinct from the text to be displayed on the page, is within angled brackets.

When an HTML file is viewed with a Web browser, the codes are not displayed but act to determine the appearance of what is displayed. For example, different heading sizes or bulleted paragraphs can be created using the appropriate HTML code.

Different Web browsers display HTML pages slightly differently. Most browsers show graphics but some (e.g. Lynx) can be used on text-only computer terminals.
