Internal, open access

Web Content Management System: Activedition

Public, Internal and Closed/Authenticated areas and pages

From the point of view of the Freedom of Information Policy, Security Policy and Branding Policy of the University, there are different categories of information that need to be put on the web.

These are:

Public
These pages are written for target audiences external to the University

Internal
These pages are written for target internal University audiences. They are not closed to the public. Where parallel Public and Internal sites exist, the Internal site will be clearly labelled as such using the appropriate template.

Closed /Authenticated
Where there is a clear and compelling reason for web pages to be restricted to groups or sub-groups of users within the University, this information should only be available after users have logged in to the pages in question. What is available to an individual will depend on the level of access set on any particular group of pages.

When Information Providers contribute content to the webCMS, it will be clear, from the naming of the Areas for which they have permissions, whether they are placing information in Open/Public, Internal or Closed/Authenticated areas of the website.

From the point of view of organising information on the web sites, Internal pages will be provided using a link ‘For current students and staff - internal’ from the home page of the Public site. The Internal site will be single top-level area, populated by sub-areas for all groups who require one. The home page of Internal sites can have Staff, Student and other links as required.

Where Closed/Authenticated pages are required for particular parts of the website, the links to these pages should be provided from the Internal pages.
