Libraries

In the webCMS, Libraries are where web content is stored where the content is:

  • needed for more than one page of the web (text and links)
  • where non-html content is stored for linking to web pages.

Libraries available are:

  • Links (ie URLs)
  • Section (text)
  • Multimedia (eg music, video, image)
  • File (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc)
  • Template (page layout specification)
  • Tag (Elements of coding – e.g. asp, JavaScript)
  • Form (for holding forms that receive or display content)

There will be general available-to-all read-only libraries, and area-specific libraries into which area owners will deposit their own content.  Those with top-level Areas will have their own set of Libraries but sub-groups will be by special request. Where required, additional libraries can be created and visibility of libraries changed (public, internal groups, closed).

Libraries will be named with a prefix indicating the primary Area with which they are associated. Any text may follow the hyphen e.g. law-classrooms. The conventions used for naming library items is up to the sub-administrator responsible for the libraries. Names for library items have to be unique within each library.

Text (Section) items should be put in a Library when they are likely to be used in more than one location.  Links should always be put in libraries.
