Helping out during the Degree Congregations

Graduation Receptions

Individual Schools and Departments often organise their own Graduation receptions. Central Catering may be able to offer a tailored Graduation menu for Schools and Departments.

If you are the organiser for a reception you can help by notifying the Graduation Office of the time and location of the event. We can then inform our marshals who can direct guests accordingly.

Graduation Marshals

The Graduation Office relies on a team of marshals during the Degree Days to assist graduands and guests in making the most of their day. Marshals are provided with a complimentary lunch.

Staff Marshals

We are always looking for enthusiastic members of staff to help on the Degree Days in a variety of roles including:

  • Student Procession marshal- helping us to coordinate graduands and lead student processions into the Great Hall
  • Staff Procession marshal- leading the staff processions into the Great Hall
  • Great Hall marshals- helping to set up the Hall between ceremonies and usher graduands and guests.

Welcome Marshals

Staff and Students are also employed as Welcome Marshals. Welcome Marshals wear grey usher robes and are situated around the London Road campus to direct guests.

If you would be interested in helping out on the Degree Days please contact with the subject line 'Helping at Graduation'.
