Faculty Teaching and Learning
Teaching and learning within the Faculty of Social Sciences is overseen by the Faculty Board for Teaching & Learning with the aim of supporting the University's vision by helping provide a stimulating and challenging educational experience which is responsive to the needs of students and society at large within a welcoming and supportive learning and teaching community.
As part of its overall learning and teaching strategy, the University aspires to produce graduates who have developed skills and knowledge of life-long value, have the confidence and enthusiasm to fulfil their personal ambitions and seek to make a difference in the world in which they live.
Committee Structures
Board for Teaching & Learning
(Chair: Dr. Martha-Marie Kleinhans, Faculty Director of T&L)
The Faculty Board for Teaching and Learning is responsible for the implementation of the University Quality Assurance policies in the context of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Board is responsible for defining and monitoring the operation of all quality assurance procedures associated with the learning and teaching environment for both undergraduate and taught postgraduate degrees. This general remit includes ensuring uniformity of practice within the Faculty and identifying and disseminating good practice.
Teaching & Learning Resources Committee
(Chair: Dr. Martha-Marie Kleinhans, Faculty Director of T&L)
The Teaching & Learning Resources Committee is the forum for the discussion of the key resources that underpin students' teaching and learning experience including information, technology, and facilities. Its function is focused on matters related to the development of the learning environment at Reading, where it is essential to take a broad view on the development of these resources and how they relate to each other.
Student-Staff Committee
(Chair: Nigel Trethewy, Faculty Sub-Dean)
The Faculty's Student-Staff Committee provides a formal channel for student representatives to exchange views with peers in other Schools/Departments within the Faculty, and with office holders in the Faculty. It functions also to provide a forum for the consideration of teaching and learning and student support in the Faculty, including by receiving reports from School/Department Student-Staff Committees on teaching and learning and student support.
