Welcome Programme Registration
Soon after your arrival you should visit one of our welcome desks located in the Student Services Centre in the Carrington Building. Here you will receive an information pack and be able to register your arrival with the International Office.
It is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have on anything which you are not sure about. Staff from the International Office will be here over the 4 days including Saturday & Sunday.
For those of you who have been unable to complete your online enrolment we will have computers available for you to use in order to complete this.
For those students who require a visa to study in the UK you must register your immigration documents with the University on arrival. Staff from the Admissions Office will be available during welcome weekend to copy these papers. You will not be able to complete your enrolment process until your documents have been copied.
On Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday there will also be a welcome lounge in the Students' Union. There will be free refreshments and current students to meet with and ask questions.

Registration of Immigration Documents
(Please note this is for students who require a visa to study in the UK only)
As part of the United Kingdom Border Agency requirements and the new Points Based visa system the University has a duty to take a copy of your passport, identity card for foreign nationals or United Kingdom immigration status document for our records.
Please ensure you bring the originals of these documents with you during one of the times below.
The documents will be scanned and retained as part of your student record.
PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to complete the enrolment process until you have had your documents(s) copied.
This process will be carried out by Admissions staff during the following times:

Registration at the University Medical Practice
NHS Primary Care is usually free to overseas students and their families, provided your course is for more than six months. To access this you should register with a doctor while in the UK. At the University of Reading, healthcare is provided by the University Medical Practice which is located in Northcourt Avenue, opposite St Patrick's Hall.
It is a friendly NHS practice offering a range of services to help you maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle while you are studying here.
If you are here with your family they will also be eligible to register and there is a range of maternity care and developmental clinics for children.
To register you should attend either of the main Fresher registration sessions which are held in the Palmer Building on the following dates:

Police Registration
You must register with the Police if it is stated in your passport (Non-EU students only).

You must take with you:
- Your passport or travel documents
- Letter from the University confirming your admission
- One current passport-sized photographs of yourself (obtainable from a coin-operated photo booth in the Students' Union)
- £34 (cash only & you must have the correct amount) for the fee. NO CHANGE WILL BE GIVEN. (rate correct at May 2010)
If you are unable to attend this registration on 6 October you must go to register at Reading Police Station which is located in Castle Street, Reading within 7 days of your arrival in the United Kingdom. The station is open 24 hours.
Important note:
If you change your address or course during your stay in the UK or extend your visa, you should notify the police so that the change can be listed on your registration certificate. There is no charge for renewal. Keep your registration certificate safe; you will need it when you renew your visa.
You must also carry your certificate with your passport when you travel as proof that you have registered.
Library
The Library and its staff are here to support your studies. They provide you with access to information (online, multimedia or printed) and the skills to make the most of it.
When you enrol, you will be given a University Access Card (which allows you to borrow Library material) and a 'Making the most of…' guide to using the Library and IT services.
On Tuesday 5 October 2010, call into the Library Fair inthe Main Library Whiteknights any time between 09.00 and 16.00 to find out about resources in your subject, using Library services effectively and to book further training sessions.
From Monday 4 October to Friday 15 October, the Main Library runs 'Finding your way in the Library' sessions, teaching you how to use the Unicorn Library catalogue and find books on the shelves. Alternatively, you can learn online:

Please ask for immediate help any time at the Library Information Desks. Your School's Liaison Librarian will give you detailed help in your subject, including using databases to find information. More help and guides are on the Library website at: www.reading.ac.uk/library
On-Line Enrolment
Enrolment at the University is online. Please go to www.reading.ac.uk/enrol where you will find instructions on how to enrol online.
You should try to enrol online before leaving for the UK.
During online enrolment you will be taken through steps to confirm your personal data, your academic data, your fee and sponsorship data and you will be asked to confirm your acceptance of the University's rules and regulations. Finally you will be directed to the online fee payment page.
You will have to pay at least 50% of your tuition fees for the year, or provide us with satisfactory information about your sponsorship before you can complete your enrolment.
Once you have completed the online enrolment process you will be able to obtain your University e mail address (username and password).
National Union of Students (NUS) Registration
As an International Student you are entitled to an NUS Extra card. You can check out the nationally negotiated discounts and purchase the card for £11 in advance of your arrival.
For an additional £1.99 you can include the International Student Identity card (ISIC), a saving of £7 on the normal price.
This is an ideal way of making your student budget go further in more than 116 countries.
Please go to the NUS website to order your card online.
You will be emailed when your card is ready for collection from the Students' Union.
Alternatively, once you are in Reading, come to the Students' Union NUS Extra registration point during Fresher's Week (4 - 8 October 2010) and have your card printed while you wait.
