Part 2 French Grammar

This course will be taught in French. It will start by giving you up-to-date information about language resources on the Internet. It will continue with sessions the aim of which is to ensure that you cover all the areas of grammar essential for any study of French at degree level. The Grammar book on which this course is based is : French Grammar by William Rowlinson, published by Oxford University Press. Each area of grammar will be introduced and practised during the lecture.
The Powerpoint Presentations
These are available to you in two forms below - on the internet with animation and sound and as a pdf file without animation and sound. If you work in the pdf. format, remember that, if you do an exercise from a linked website, you can always get back to where you left the presentation by using the small arrow keys at the bottom of the screen.
  • On the internet. If you wish to work on the internet, you should click on the Powerpoint presentation column in the week you wish to prepare or review. You can practise all the Internet exercises in the presentation and try them as often as you want until you are satisfied that you can do them correctly. Further exercises are given in the Additional Links column on the right for each week. Even more exercises can be found by clicking on Internet exercises. For many of them you will need to use ALT + numbers for accents. Use the Accented characters link for these.
  • PDF files. All of the sessions fare available as pdf files. Just click on the link to open the file and work on it. The file can be downloaded onto your machine and saved on the hard disk or onto a normal floppy disk. You can then work at them from your PC at your leisure. The pdf files contain links to other exercises on the internet. You can click on these to do them online. All the public PCs at the University have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed. If you are working on your own PC and do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download the software free from the Adobe site by clicking on the following link and following the instructions - Adobe Acrobat Reader download.
