About us

The University Counselling Service offers short-term counselling and Talks on a range of topics to develop wellbeing. These are for all currently-registered students free of charge. Our aim is to support you in making a success of your university life, whatever challenges are ahead.

Each year over 800 students attend 1:1 sessions with one of the counsellors, psychologists or psychotherapists in the team, and more participate in the range of Talks on offer.

The consultation and counselling sessions are confidential and independent, though funded by the University, and information shared with us is not disclosed to others, including Schools/Departments, GPs, parents, without your prior permission. But where appropriate co-ordinated support is request by the student, we are able to work closely with colleagues across the University, with informed consent.

The team offers support for any developmental, clinical and academic problems which may arise during your time at Reading. A primary aim is to ensure that whatever your personal problems, the impact on concentration and motivation is kept to the minimum, with capacity for social, emotional, and academic achievement restored as soon as possible.
