- Enhancement Manager (Teaching, Learning, Assessment & Feedback)
- Responsibilities:
My principal responsibilities lie in the fields of assessment, feedback and linking teaching with research. I work with colleagues across the University on a wide range of projects relating to these areas and I'm currently leading a series of assessment and feedback 'engagement' activities across the University. I am responsible for managing the JISC-funded 'ASSET' project and its associated follow-on national events, which are focussing on the use of digital media to enhance feedback practices (http://www.reading.ac.uk/videofeedback). I also run a wide range of both generic and discipline-specific staff development sessions and lead workshops for the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) programme. I was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship in 2009 and have been using this funding to develop a new online resource for staff, 'Engage in Assessment' http://www.reading.ac.uk/engageinassessment, which complements the existing 'Engage in Feedback' website (http://www.reading.ac.uk/engageinfeedback). I am committed to supporting the recognition of teaching excellence and have supporting roles in both the University and National Teaching Fellowship Schemes. I regularly present and publish pedagogic research and I'm a member of the Editorial Board for the HEA Centre for Bioscience Education e-Journal.
- Areas of Interest:
- Prior to taking up my post of at Reading I was a full-time, research active lecturer in Ecology & Zoology at University College Cork, (UCC) Ireland. One of my main aims is to try and make full use of my lecturing and PhD/Masters supervisory experiences in all aspects of my work at Reading. I am particularly interested in the development of undergraduate research skills and as part of my work with the University's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning- Applied Undergraduate Skills (CETL-AURS), I co-authored the 'Engage in Research' website http://www.engageinresearch.ac.uk.
