Learning and Teaching Conference

Enhancement Week 2010

In 2010 substituted the Learning and Teaching Conference. There was a wide range of events, from discussion groups to hands-on training and The Big Debate. The week was very popular with staff and provided ideas for future programmes.

Learning and Teaching Conference 2009

The Learning and Teaching Conference 2009 took place on 14-15 July and was a joint event with the CETL-AURS (Learning Through Enquiry Alliance) annual conference.

For further information on the Conference see: LTEA 2009 and Reading Teaching and Learning Conference.

Learning and Teaching Conference 2008

The University's Learning and Teaching Conference took place on 08-09 July 2008 in the Agriculture Building. The themes of the Conference were:

  • Academic Excellence covering but not limited to Enquiry-Based Learning
  • Developing academic skills
  • Challenging teaching and learning at Part One
  • Stimulating student experience and developing a learning community covering but not limited to student voice, student representation, peer assisted learning.

In total, 112 staff registered for the event. Over the course of the two days, 35 presentations and 5 poster displays were made including one keynote speaker from the National Union of Students (NUS) and one from the University of Reading (School of Psychology). A presentation of the Team Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning and for the PGCAP Project Prize winner was also incorporated into the Learning and Teaching Conference.

Feedback on the conference was encouraging with participants commenting positively on the quality of the keynote talks, the quality of the presentations in the parallel sessions, the range of topics covered, the opportunities provided for discussion, the programme/structure of the day and the organisation of the event. Some points for us to consider in order to improve future events were also raised and included: the duration of lunch breaks and the Chair's role running the sessions in an effective and timely manner.
