University and Early Career Teaching Fellowship Schemes
Overview
The University of Reading Teaching Fellowship is a prestigious award conferred on an individual who has demonstrated individual excellence and contributed to the development of teaching and learning within the University. The Fellowship is designed to support staff to further develop in this area.
The University of Reading Early Career Teaching Fellowship follows the same principles as the main scheme and is aimed at any individual who has demonstrated individual excellence early in their career within the University.
The Fellowship scheme is open to all permanent members of staff with a teaching or teaching/learning support role. Fellows may be full or part-time and academic or academic-related staff. To qualify for a Fellowship, staff must be on the lecturer scale, or above or equivalent.
Purposes
- Recognise and reward excellence in teaching and the support of student learning
- Raise the status of teaching in the University as a scholarly activity
- Provide funding for researching, developing and disseminating best practice in teaching and learning.
Fellowship details
- Each Fellow to receive an annual honorarium of £1,500 for three years paid via salary (please note that we are no longer able to make payments into staff SDA accounts)
- 'Title for life', e.g. Teaching Fellow of the University of Reading
- (subject to available funding) Fellows are entitled to bid for project funding of £32,000 (or £20,000 for Early Career Fellowships) to be spent over a maximum period of three years and can expect support from the Centre for the Development of Teaching and Learning throughout the project period.
It should be noted that University Teaching Fellows are conferred on the basis of an individuals record in teaching and learning and not for a project proposal. It is not the expectation that all Fellows will apply for, or be awarded, project funding.
