NEW! Russian 1 course starts this October
Responding to student demands we are pleased to introduce Russian to the range of languages you will be able to learn with IWLP.
Russian is spoken by about 160 million people in the Russian Federation. It is the official language of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan. it is also widely spoken in Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Estonia and other countries of the former USSR.
Russian 1 is a standard 20 credit module aimed at complete beginners who wish to be able to communicate at a very basic level when travelling to a Russian-speaking country for a short time. You will also learn more about the countries where Russian is spoken, their people and their culture.
Our Russian tutor is Dr Nigora Nasirova, a teacher with 20 years- experience, a PhD in Russian language and a Master in Political Science from Reading. Dr Nasirova, who is from Uzbekistan and has taught Russian at Reading already in the past, says:
"I look forward to returning to Reading. I am excited to be part of a dynamic, international environment which is promoting language development as one of its priorities. The Russian language is challenging but very rewarding. It gives you an authentic appreciation and insight into the rich culture, history and traditions of Russia and Russian-speaking cultures and their role in the present and future global agendas . I invite students to consider it as an option they will enjoy now and make their CVs stand out tomorrow".
