Dr Richard Davies

Richard's research explores human and organisational aspects of the implementation and use of new technology at work. His current work largely focuses on building information modelling (BIM) and BIM-related technology and systems. Active projects include:

  • Case study of mobile computing and 'Site BIM' software development on a major hospital project
  • Measurement of factors affecting individual employee's technology acceptance in construction
  • Use of collaborative immersive virtual environments by architects, clients and bid teams
  • Use of BIM design tools and portable visualisation technologies to support construction and design operations and 'near-site' assembly on small-to-medium-sized construction projects
  • Development and use of mobile apps for innovation management in a large contracting organisation
Before joining Reading, Richard worked in construction, engineering, telecommunications and IT development in business analysis and project management roles. His PhD research (UMIST, 1997) studied job design, motivation and job satisfaction among construction trades. He also holds degrees in Construction Management (UMIST, 1992), Psychology (Open, 2000), and Occupational Psychology (MSc; Birkbeck, 2004).
