Working with business
Enterprise in the Department of History is viewed in the broader context of knowledge transfer. This is in line with the University's vision to become 'a recognised contributor to the knowledge economy regionally, nationally and internationally'. It is achieved through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton near Chichester, West Sussex. This is an innovative project that combines the disciplines of History and Cybernetics to assist the Museum in presenting information about its houses and collections to the public in an easily absorbed, inspiring and informative electronic way.
Two KTP Associates work on the project supervised by Dr Margaret Yates (History) and Dr William Browne (Cybernetics) who investigate the historical context of the houses and the ways in which information is conveyed to the public in an electronic format. Preliminary results on the history of the medieval houses have been given as academic papers to seminars at the Universities of Oxford, Reading and Southampton, published in the Museum's magazine, and are included on the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum website.
