Areas of interest

I am interested in US policy toward the Global South in the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular focus on development policy, regime change and democracy promotion. I also have interests in US Cold War national security strategy, the Reagan Administration, and the history of the US intelligence services.

Research centres and groups

Background

I have published on the role of non-state actors and transnational movements in the formulation and implementation of American democracy promotion policies, and US attempts to reform friendly dictatorships during the Cold War and the War on Terror.

Current projects

I am currently developing a project on "Imperial Transnationalism", which will examine the role of American civil society groups and the US intelligence services in forging relationships with Third World elites during the 1950s and 1960s.
