Doctoral Research Engagement Competition 2019

About the competition

The Doctoral Research Engagement Award aims to recognise and reward doctoral researchers who undertake high-quality engagement activities during their doctoral studies, increasing the reach and impact of their work, sharing their enthusiasm and improving their skills and experience. Shortlisted entries will be invited to showcase their engagement activity at the Doctoral Research Conference on 19 June 2019. The competition will be judged by a panel drawn from the University of Reading's research community and members of the Research Communication and Engagement team.

The winner chosen will receive an award of £100.

Eligibility - who can apply?

Full-time students in their second / third / final year and part-time students in their third, fourth or fifth year at the time of the call.

Competition guidelines

Entries can be submitted by individual researchers or in groups (of up to three doctoral researchers) by completing the application form. Group entries must be submitted by one named individual who will be the lead contact for the entry.

Each student / group can submit only one application.

The application must result from engagement activities undertaken as part of current doctoral studies. The engagement activity must either be ongoing or have been completed within the last year.

Students must have played a leading or substantial role in the engagement activity.

The application must be accompanied by a short statement from the lead applicant's supervisor outlining the contribution made to the engagement activity.

If your entry is selected then at least one person per application should be able to attend the Doctoral Research Conference on 19 June 2019 and present / demonstrate the engagement activity. Entrants will be informed if their entry has been selected by 7 May 2019.

Entrants must agree that information about the applications may be made public via internal and external communication channels.
