Vicky Boulain

Vicky BoulainI honestly wouldn't have made it through the course if it wasn't for the high level of teaching and the great lecturers. Human Geography was a great option for me as I enjoyed learning more about people and cultures around the world. For me the module options got better in part 2 and 3. Reading University is a great place for students and the Geography department really adds to this. The campus is great, it's lovely to see all the greenery on the way to lectures and the facilities on campus are great.

A lot of support is offered on careers from both the department and the university as a whole. I hope to go on to complete a SCITT/PGCE to become a teacher.

David Brissenden

David BrissendenI was very happy with my module choices as I was specifically interested by the subject matter. Overall the teaching standard was exceptional, lecturers show genuine passion for their subject, particularly in the third year. I would advise reading into a module before selecting, if you choose appropriate modules academic life is good. Non academic life is fantastic - the campus is much better than Canterbury!

The course is a good opening to environmental careers. I will be considering further study, possibly an MSc.

Clare Daly

"There is a real sense of community in the Environmental Sciences unlike subjects with hundreds of people on them. I've made very close friends and because there are fewer of you, you get a better relationship with your lecturers too.
"What do I enjoy about Reading? I love the main campus! It's pretty and it feels good to be part of the whole community."

After graduating Clare spent time travelling to many far-flung parts of the world. She is currently completing an MSc in Quaternary Science at the University of London.

George Evans

"I like studying at Reading because of the attractive campus with plenty of facilities and the activities provided by the Student Union. I enjoy studying Environmental Science due to the variety, interest and options contained within the degree course."

George is currently undertaking a Professional Placement with the environmental division of Haden Building Management.

Shaun McHugh

"The field classes really brought us together as a group, lecturers and students alike! Not only that, but we began to use techniques learnt in lectures in real situations, which was a great reinforcement to the degree programme."

Since August 2007 Shaun has been working for WD Environmental in Tring, Herts, specialising in contaminated land remediation.

Cameron Niven

Cameron NivenThe lecturers were brilliant! Every single one was enthusiastic, supportive and often had a great sense of humour. I have learned so much and developed in ways I never thought I would. I was enthralled by the Polar Regions module. As for Reading, there are a lot of hidden gems in town, the musical establishments especially. I would encourage students to venture out of the student bubble and explore the smaller, lesser known venues. The campus is beautiful - but stop building over it!

I've got some music to play for a bit, then I may look for work in the media or study for a masters degree.

Christopher Pettet

Christopher PettetWhat a fantastic and unique experience! I'm glad to have met so many new people. It was also a useful experience in living away from home and learning to be disciplined financially. I loved the campus environment, quite a strong community, especially fantastic in the summer. Reading town has been developed well and there are some good places to go out - stick to the right areas though! The teaching standard was great and the lecturers quite happy to oblige when queried about the course and the assessments. The modules I selected were diverse in factual content, but were useful in completing other modules as many of the themes and ideologies studied were interlinked.

I am going to travel next year then I think I will be ready for employment.

Nicola Shields

Nicola ShieldsComing to Reading has been the best 3 years of my life and there is something here for everyone. The friends I have made here will hopefully be life long ones. The campus is beautiful and Reading is a nice town with plenty to do. There is a varied range of modules to choose from, with something to suit everyone's preferences. I have enjoyed all my modules and have learned a lot from the passionate lecturers, all lovely people, who are there to both help & support students both academically and personally.

Plenty of support is given with regards to careers and the support has been great. I am going on to further study at another university with the support of Reading.
