For teachers and advisors

Chalkboard

We have several Royal Geographical Society Undergraduate Ambassadors and other students involved in the University's Student Tutoring Scheme, who visit local schools on a regular basis, working with pupils enthusing and encouraging them to continue their study of Geography and Environmental Science beyond the compulsory stages.

We are keen to develop closer relations with students, teachers and advisors in schools and colleges.

We can offer a range of services including:

  • Short talks or seminars for Years 3-13 on specific aspects of Environmental Science e.g. water supply, waste disposal, climate change, carbon footprint and extinctions.
  • Practical demonstrations at your school or in our laboratories.
  • INSET sessions for Key Stage 2-4, 'A' Level and IB teachers.
  • Loans from our extensive collections of minerals, rocks, fossils and artefacts.

For example, Science in Society fellow Professor Mark Hodson is available to give talks on a range of subjects including pollution, evolution and climate change. Download the flyer (PDF 169KB): Shining a light on the environment
