Funding
You will need funding to cover your fees, living expenses and any costs involved in carrying out your research. All funding schemes are very competitive and you are strongly advised to discuss your research proposal and application with your potential supervisor well before the closing date.
Studentships are available each year. These will be advertised on the Postgraduate research opportunities page.
Full information on all the studentships offered by the University, plus information on external sources of funding is given on the Money matters, costs and budgets for postgraduate students coming to the university of reading pages.
Alternative funding is available from various trusts and foundations on the basis of research subject, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, gender, etc. A comprehensive survey of these sources is provided by the annually updated publication entitled The Directory of Grant Making Trusts.
The Community of Science website provides useful information about funding available worldwide.
The Hotcourses web site at www.studentmoney.org holds a database of scholarships, bursaries and awards plus other useful information.
