- Dr Joanna Clark
- Job Title:
- Lecturer in Soil Carbon
- Responsibilities:
- Earth System Science Research Group Seminars
- Teaching: Carbon & Global Change; Sustainable Land Management; Quantitative Analysis of Environmental Data; Environmental Science Field Class; Dissertation Supervision

- Jun Cang, 'Soils and organic pollutants'.
- Bassey Udo, 'Influence of oil on greehouse gas emissions from soils'.
Joanna is keen to discuss PhD opportunities with students interested in carbon cycling in organic soils, dissolved organic carbon dynamics, climate change mitigation potential of biochar, and modelling climate change impacts on biogeochemical processes.

Key Facts:
Joanna joined the department in October 2010. She completed her PhD on dissolved organic carbon dynamics in blanket peat in 2005 at the University of Leeds in collaboration with CEH Merlewood/Lancaster (NERC-CASE). She then worked as a Research Fellow on three projects based at Imperial College, Bangor University and the University of Leeds:
- Sensitivity of peatland carbon cycling to climate change (Grantham Institute for Climate Change, Imperial College)
- Vulnerability of upland peatland ecosystem services to climate change (Environment Agency and NERC-QUEST)
- Influence of recovery from acidification on the dynamics of dissolved organic carbon in organic soils (NERC)
Joanna was a Guest Editor for a special issue of Climate Research on Climate Change and the British Uplands.
