Key Facts:

Maleki is a postdoctoral researcher working on the LANDWISE project with a focus on land surface processes modelling, flood risk assessment, natural flood management and sustainable land and water resources management. He joined the department in July 2019. He was formerly a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lomé (Togo) involved in research, teaching and student's supervision activities as well as independent consulting. He worked for the World Bank group and the National Civil Protection Agency in Togo. He also worked for the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Center on supporting flood risks forecasting in Togo as part of a forecast-based financing project.

Maleki's current work on land surface processes modelling focuses on permeable and relatively large catchments, and seeks to address two specific objectives: i) assess the framework for undertaking NFM modelling in these catchments based on existing models and different datasets, and ii) assess the effectiveness of NFM measures at the scales of these catchments.
He works under the supervision of Prof Joanna Clark, Prof Anne Verhoef and Prof Hannah Cloke, and in collaboration with scientists from the British Geological Survey (BGS) and JBA Consulting in charge of groundwater and hydrodynamic modelling respectively within the LANDWISE project.

Maleki completed his PhD in 2015 in the Graduate Research Program of Climate Change and Water Resources of the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land use (WASCAL GRP CC&WR) at the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), in collaboration with Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany. He did his previous studies at the Faculty of sciences of the University of Lomé (Togo). In 2016, he received the Green Talent Award of German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for his outstanding achievements in making the societies more sustainable.
