Reading Bird Feeding Survey
We are now recruiting volunteers to help with a major new survey of garden bird feeding in Reading.
Background information
Garden bird feeding is one of the most popular wildlife activities in the UK. We want to estimate how much and what type of food people in Reading are providing for wild birds in their gardens. This will provide useful background information for our other research into the effects of garden bird feeding.
Volunteer your garden
We are looking for as many people as possible across Reading who feed wild birds in their gardens to help by measuring how much food is put out and how often. We can provide a measuring jug to assist with this. You will not need to change the way or times of year at which you feed birds. We may also ask to visit some of the gardens taking part to monitor the birds but there is no obligation to take part in this part of the work.
The survey will start in Spring/Summer 2010 although later start dates are also possible. It will continue over the next two years as we want to collect as much information as we can. If you do not feed birds at all at the moment, this is a great time to start!
If you would like to take part, please do get in touch - email us at gardenwatch@reading.ac.uk now.
