After completing his undergraduate degree in China, Roger wanted to build on the creative ideas he had been exploring through short-film production. However, he also hoped to find a course that would teach him all he needed to fulfil his ambition of becoming a start-up business owner. When he found the University of Reading's MA Creative Enterprise: Film Pathway programme he couldn't believe a course existed that fitted his needs so well.
Since Roger completed the course at Reading, he's used his new business knowledge in law, finance and management to set up a media technology company in Cambodia. He regularly writes scripts for online TV shows, and is in the early stages of establishing a youth film festival.
"This project could help Cambodia's young generation put their leisure time into useful things, and let more people know about the beauty of Cambodia - it will welcome them to this kingdom of wonder!"
Coming to study in the UK away from his home country was a big step for Roger, but he settled in quickly thanks to the welcoming surroundings. It was a welcome surprise to have his own film projects screened in the campus cinema, and he describes Reading as "one of the best university environments that I have seen."
During his studies, Roger and his peers went to the Rotterdam International Film Festival, which was an experience he will never forget. He also enjoyed meeting people from other courses and countries at Reading's scuba diving club.
"It is not only my supervisor who inspired me, but also all the lecturers, my classmates, and my friends. Thanks to all the people I have met - because of you I can move a step forward in a short period of time."
