Publications and research performances
The majority of our research consists of published historical and critical studies, in books, journal articles, edited collections of essays and critical editions. Practice as research forms a significant part of the department's research output, and occurs mainly in theatre. Staff use the process of staging a performance as a means to explore issues such as the interaction of multi-media technology with conventional performance, the conditions of performance in earlier historical epochs, the problems of translation of theatre texts into English, or how theatre can explore social roles (Practice as Research).
