Tranversalities: crossing disciplines, cultures and identities (September 2005)

Co-hosted by the Department of Film, Theatre & Television and the Department of Fine Art, University of Reading, this conference focused on the key impulse in recent artistic practice in which dance, film, music, theatre, painting, sculpture, performance, television, text, theatre and video have all contested the boundaries of their disciplines and their relations with each other in playful and controversial ways. The conference aimed to address the histories of transversality in the arts, the question of political agency in transversal work, the deconstruction of identity formations, as well as the effects of transversing the actual and the virtual.
