Please note that deadlines for funding to support postgraduate research are normally in February (for the University of Reading's funding) and early May (for Arts & Humanities Research Board funding), so it is imperative to begin the application process in good time.Funding is very competitive, and we only support funding applications from research degree candidates who have a First Class undergraduate degree or the equivalent, and are taking or have taken an MA in a relevant subject. We also consider candidates who can fund themselves.

We have a thriving postgraduate research culture and support discipline-specific doctoral research in film, theatre and television, alongside inter-disciplinary research. A significant proportion of our current PhD students conduct research by practice in theatre and film.
