MPhils/PhDs in Film, Theatre and Television
An outstanding department
We are a dynamnic department and pride ourselves on knowing all our students well. We are home to world-class researchers recognized for the quality and diversity of their work, who nurture and value the connections between academic research and teaching. The high staff inclusion rate in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 demonstrates the robustness of our research environment. The results confirm our excellence, with 90% of our work evaluated as of at least international standing, and a significant proportion as world-leading.

A thriving postgraduate research culture
We have an excellent record of supporting full-time and part-time research degree students. They work closely with their supervisors and belong to a welcoming community of postgraduates and academic staff. They take part in a wide range of both formal and social activities designed to develop and extend their research skills. They are considered to be of key importance to the department's vibrant intellectual life.

A range of approaches
Our postgraduate researchers work on a wide variety of challenging projects. We offer specialist supervision in the discrete areas of film, theatre and television research. We also support a variety of inter-disciplinary projects. The department has a strong tradition of enabling practice as research. This is recognized internationally as one of its chief strengths. We welcome students from a range of academic and practical backgrounds who conduct work in this mode.
