Minghella Studios is the home of our Department and the hub of our activities. It's a bright, open and flexible collection of spaces reflecting how we teach and explore film, theatre and television.
As a department with a long-standing commitment to combining theory and practice, we think it's important to create an environment where critical thinking and creative development work together. So our versatile theatre spaces, cinema auditorium, TV studio and post-production suites are all there to support teaching and research at every level.
A place to collaborate
Our academic staff work closely with a team of specialist theatre, film and television technicians to make Minghella Studios a vibrant place for teaching, learning and creating. We regularly host conferences and symposia, visiting theatre companies, practical workshops led by industry professionals, and student-led festivals and screenings.
"Minghella is not just a space for work but a place where we socialise and bond across all three years to create some truly amazing practical projects."
Students take the lead
Each year our undergraduate students organise and promote a Film, Theatre and Television Festival at the Studios to showcase their own work, while postgraduates host an annual Journeys Across Media (JAM) conference, in which early-career and world-renowned researchers and practitioners gather together for talks, screenings and performances.
Excellence and imagination
Minghella Studios is an inclusive and responsive space, and that's why it can encourage and support such a wide range of events and activities – from our Sewing Circle 'film analysis club' to visiting lectures by prestigious theatre and film makers, actors, philosophers and critics. The Beckett Research Centre and the Centre for Film Aesthetics and Cultures both use the Studios as a base for their projects, not least because Minghella is a great place for bringing together different interests and disciplines.
If you're interested in joining one of our undergraduate or master's degrees then why not come along to one of our upcoming open days or postgraduate events? It's a great way for you to see our impressive facilities and workspaces for yourself, and to meet people who already teach, study and make work here.
