JFSSG Letter, 8 June 1998
Draft Proposals to Amend the Food Safety (Fishery Products and Live Shellfish) (Hygiene) Regulations 1998
The letter seeks comments on proposals to amend the Food Safety (Fishery Products and Live Shellfish) (Hygiene) Regulations 1998 so as to:
- implement Council Directive 97/61/EC which introduces a standard movement document for live shellfish and a maximum permitted level of Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning toxin;
- implement an outstanding requirement of Council Directive 91/493/EEC that imports of fishery product from third country freezer and factory vessels to the EU must be accompanied by a health certificate
- correct an error in Regulation 19(1)(g) of the new fishery products and live shellfish regulations.
The letter also seeks comments on possible action to classify waters from which marine gastropods (whelks, limpets, winkles and periwinkles), echinoderms (sea urchins and sea cucumbers) and tunicates (sea squirts) are harvested.
Comments are required by 8 August 1998.
