16 July 1998: SPREADABLE FATS - Proposed Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 1998

JFSSG, 16 July 1998

Proposed Spreadable Fats (Marketing Standards) (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 1998

The Commission has adopted Regulations 623/98 and 1298/98 (relating to spreadable fats and the protection of dairy designations). The requirements of these Regulations are directly applicable in all Member States. However amendment to the 1995 UK Regulations is required to ensure enforcement and execution provisions are covered by national legislation.

The letter therefore encloses draft amendment regulations which will provide the necessary extension to enforcement and execution powers by simply adding the two new Regulations to the listing of EU controls covered by the UK Regulations. Comments are requested by 10 September 1998.
