HYGIENE - Publication of Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) update report for Welsh Government

Food Standards Agency has laid before the National Assembly for Wales the Update Report on the Implementation and Operation of the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in Wales.

In February 2015 the Food Standards Agency produced its first report on the implementation and operation of the statutory Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in Wales, and the operation of the appeals system. The report was laid before the National Assembly for Wales and is available on the website of the National Assembly for Wales.

The report provided an overview of the first year of operation of the statutory Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, and made several recommendations, including that:

this report is statistically updated with regard to migration, ratings issued, requests for re-rating inspections and appeals within three months of 28 May 2015.

Today, 28 August 2015, the Food Standards Agency has laid before the National Assembly for Wales the report giving the update on statistical information.

In this report, the Agency has also considered the information on migration, ratings issued, requests for re-rating inspections and appeals for the 3 month period from 28 November 2014, the first anniversary of the scheme.  The information showed that around 10,000 food businesses have been migrated to the statutory scheme, and that the food hygiene ratings of businesses in Wales have continued to improve since the scheme was implemented. The requirement for food businesses in Wales to display their food hygiene rating sticker continues to build on the positive effects of the non-statutory scheme.
