INFANT FORMULAE - Summary of consultation responses - Draft Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2014

The Department's consultation on the draft Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2014 closed on 6th December 2013.  A summary of responses has been published on our website: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/amendment-to-infant-milk-legislation

There were 8 responses to the consultation from consumer organisations; health organisations; healthcare professionals; industry and private individuals.  No objections were received on the draft Statutory Instrument or analysis of the costs and benefits, however responses focused on:

All the views expressed in this consultation have been carefully considered and will inform the revision of Government advice to parents/carers and healthcare professionals on the suitability of goats’ milks, which will include clear advice on allergy.

Next steps

The legislation will be laid before Parliament for scrutiny on 30 December, and subject to any objections from the Houses, will enter into force on 28 February 2014. From this date product can place on the market products formulated to the new standards.  Businesses must ensure that any new products comply with the provisions of Directive 2006/141/EC.
