ENFORCEMENT - Response issued to Farming Regulation Task Force

The UK Government, through the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), has today published the full response to the Farming Regulation Task Force. The FSA has published an update to its response.

The independent Farming Regulation Task Force, chaired by Richard Macdonald, published its report on 17 May 2011. The task force's remit was to identify ways to reduce the regulatory burden on farmers and food processors while maintaining high environmental, welfare and safety standards. For devolved matters, including food and feed, the task force covered England only.

The task force made more than 200 recommendations covering the full range of the regulatory landscape that affects farming. Of these, a number were addressed directly to the FSA. The Agency has responded positively to all but one, which has been rejected at this stage.

The FSA’s response has not changed since it was published in November last year, but it has been updated to reflect progress made on areas highlighted by the task force report.
