ENFORCEMENT - Report to the European Commission on Progress in 2007 towards Implementation of the UK National Control Plan

The first annual report on progress on implementation of the UK's national control plan (NCP) for January 2007 to March 2011 has been published on the Agency's website.

The report has been prepared jointly by the Agency, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Government's Rural Directorate, the Welsh Assembly Government's Department for Rural Affairs, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland, in order to meet a requirement under EU Regulation 882/2004 on official controls.

The purpose of the report is to inform the European Commission on progress during 2007 towards achieving the objectives of the UK NCP. It summarises the results of the official controls and associated activities that were undertaken by the competent (regulatory) authorities and associated bodies. It also outlines the findings of audits undertaken to assess the performance of the competent authorities.

The report will be used by the European Commission's inspection services, the Food and Veterinary Office, to plan its audits of control arrangements in the UK. Additionally, the Report will contribute, together with similar reports prepared by the other Member States, to a Commission report to the Council and European Parliament on the overall operation of official controls across the European Community.

The report may be downloaded from the Agency's website at: http://www.food.gov.uk/foodindustry/regulation/europeleg/feedandfood/ncpuk
