CLAIMS/FORTIFICATION - Guidance on two regulations published

The Agency has today published guidance to compliance with two European regulations: one on labelling and advertising and one on adding substances to food.

Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 is on nutrition and health claims made on foods and Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 is on the addition of vitamins and minerals and of certain other substances to food. The guidance notes are to help food business operators know what they must do and by when they have to comply with these regulations that have applied in the UK since 1 July 2007.

Draft guidance was published in March 2007 and underwent extensive consultation. Various developments, including amendment of the regulations and publication of guidance by the European Commission, delayed publication of the finalised guidance notes. Summaries of the consultation responses are available.

Copies of the guidance documents are available on the FSA web site. See:
