ENFORCEMENT - EU Regulation 882/2004 on official controls – Revised Q&A notes for enforcement authorities on the feed and food elements

A copy of the revised Q&A notes is available on this site. See: Q&A for Enforcement Authorities

The Food Standards Agency has updated the Q&A notes for enforcement authorities on the feed and food elements of Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 on official controls. A copy of the revised notes is enclosed for your information.

Regulation 882/2004 sets out a framework of requirements for the authorities in Member States that are responsible for official controls in respect of feed and food law as well as with animal health and animal welfare rules. Most of the provisions applied from 1 January 2006 and the others from 1 January 2007.

The Q&A notes, first published in 2005, are designed to explain the provisions of this directly applicable Regulation as they relate to monitoring and enforcing the requirements of feed and food legislation and to provide informal and non-statutory advice. The notes should be read in conjunction with Regulation 882/2004 itself which may be downloaded from the European Commission website at: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/site/en/consleg/2004/R/02004R0882-20060525-en.pdf

No substantive changes have been made to the Notes since they were last revised in 2006 but rather references to legislation, guidance and weblinks etc. have been updated. The Q&A notes are published on the Agency's website at: http://www.food.gov.uk/foodindustry/guidancenotes/foodguid/offcqanotes
