OFFICIAL CONTROL - Updated guidance for enforcement authorities on the EU Official Feed and Food Controls Regulation

The Food Standards Agency has updated the Q&A notes for enforcement authorities on the feed and food elements of the EU Regulation on official controls (882/2004).

Regulation 882/2004 sets out general requirements for the authorities that are responsible for checking that businesses comply with feed and food legislation. The Q&A notes, first published in November 2005, are designed to explain the provisions of the Regulation and to provide informal and non-statutory advice. They are aimed primarily at the enforcement authorities in the UK, but may also provide useful information for the feed and food industries, and for consumers.

The notes have been updated to reflect recently issued advice on the arrangements for controls on feed and food of non-animal origin originating from the ten Member States that joined the EU in May 2004 (new question 38). References to national legislation have also been updated (question 45).
