HYGIENE - Draft Guidance Notes on the Collagen and Gelatine (Intra-Community Trade) (England) Regulations 2003

Following a public consultation exercise held between 3 March and 23 May 2003 (see 3 March 2003), the Collagen and Gelatine (Intra-Community Trade) (England) Regulations 2003 (SI 2003 No. 1736), were laid before Parliament on 16 July 2003 and come into force in England on 30 September 2003. The Regulations implement Commission Decision 2003/42/EC of 10 January 2003, which lays down health conditions for collagen and raw materials for human consumption intended for trade between EU Member States.

The Food Standards Agency is now inviting comments on the Draft Guidance Notes to accompany the new Regulations. The purpose of the Draft Guidance Notes is to aid interpretation, application and enforcement of the Regulations. A copy of the Draft Guidance Notes is currently available at:
http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/draftguidancecollagelatine.pdf

The Agency would particularly welcome comments from businesses and enforcement authorities directly affected by the Regulations.

Any comments on the draft guidance should be sent, by Wednesday 24 September 2003
