Category D: For information only

Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware of a voluntary product recall by H J Heinz Company Ltd of Heinz Organic Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce in 400g cans. The Company is intending to issue a press release and product recall notice in the national press tomorrow.

The product details are:

NB: Heinz Organic Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce in 400g cans is the only product affected by the recall. All other Heinz Spaghetti varieties are made at a different manufacturing location. No other Heinz product is involved in the recall.

Consumers are being advised not to eat the product and if they have any of the implicated cans they should remove the label and dispose of the can. Consumers are requested to return the label together with their name and address in block capitals to Heinz. They will receive a voucher to cover the full value of the product.

Additional Information:

As there are short term health concerns regarding high concentrations of tin, The UK Tin in Food Regulations 1992 limit the maximum amount of tin in foods sold in the UK to 200mg/kg.
