PARNUTS - Marketing of Food for Particular Nutritional Uses: Draft Guidance Notes Published

Guidance Notes on the Notification of Marketing of Food for Particular Nutritional Uses (England and Wales) Regulations 2002 (Statutory Instrument 2002 No. 333)

Comments are required on draft guidance notes to these regulations. Copies of the regulations are available from The Stationery Office or can be found at:
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2002/20020333.htm

The regulations came into force on 8 March 2002. They implement for England and Wales Article 9 of Council Directive 89/398/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to foodstuffs intended for particular nutritional uses (as amended by Directive 1999/41/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council).

These Regulations effectively require certain foods for particular nutritional uses to be notified to the Food Standards Agency when placed on the market in England or Wales for the first time. The FSA intend to develop a form and guidance notes to aid notification. The draft guidance notes are enclosed with the letter for information and comment.

In particular, the FSA would be interested to hear of any specific areas of this legislation that it is believed the FSA have not covered in the guidance notes, or particular issues that are still not clear.

Comments are required by 5 July 2002.

A copy of the draft guidnace notes (pdf format) is available from the FSA web site at:
