ADDITIVES - The Sweeteners in Food (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2001
Further to a letter of 2 April 2001, the FSA
is writing to inform people that the Sweeteners in Food (Amendment) (England)
Regulations 2001 (SI 2001 No.2294) come into force on 27 July 2001. These regulations
partly implement the requirements of Commission Directive 2000/51/EC1, by laying
down new specific purity criteria (specifications) for maltitol syrup (E965 (ii)).
As explained in the previous letter, Directive 2000/51/EC also contained amended purity criteria. for mannitol (E421 ). However, because the specification for mannitol in the directive contained an error the FSA did not implement this change. Instead changes to mannitol will now be the subject of separate amending Regulations.
