Protected Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin

The fourth list of names previously circulated was approved at a Regulatory meeting on 20 May [for relevent itmes, see
6 May 1997]. A discussion also took place on a draft Commission Regulations to widen the scope of EC Regulation 2081/92, adding cork and cochineal to the list of products in Annex II. Member States gave unanimous approval to this proposal.

The Commission has also published two further products for consideration under Article 6(2) (normal procedure) of the Regulations. Under the normal procedure objections are to be sent to the competent authority within 6 months of publication. The 2 products concerned are:
