At a meeting on the 29 April discussion was largely focused on the relatively uncontentious issue of “sample preparation and methods of analysis for authorities carrying out the determination of aflatoxin in certain foods”. It is indicated that the proposals are considered more onerous than required by current UK Regulations and could result in unacceptable costs to both industry and enforcement without any prospect of improved consumer safety since the number of consignments sampled would be likely to fall. Discussions will continue on the 12 May and 9 June.
