2 April 1997: CONTAMINANTS - Mycotoxins - EC Permitted Levels

MAFF Letter, 2 April 1997

Mycotoxins - EC Permitted Levels

The Ministry has now circulated the Commission's pre-draft of the proposed Regulation on mycotoxins [for previous discussion, see
5 March 1997]. It is intended that the Regulation will amend Commission Regulation No. 194/97 of 31 January 1997 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs. This Regulation currently sets maximum levels for nitrates in lettuce and spinach.

MAFF indicates that the details of the proposals have not altered significantly from the documents circulated at recent meetings. The proposal is still incomplete as it does not as yet include processed final products. Nor are the details of sampling method or analytical method included although provision has been made in the table for these to be added.

This document will be discussed at the next meeting which is likely to be held on 28 April.
